Author(s):
Alexander brings us yet another amazing read. If you have read her before, this novel does not disappoint. We are taken back to a time where women struggled to hold their own while their husbands went off fighting in the war. The reader will be sucked into this page-turner and experience the emotion that the characters are feeling. You won't want to miss this novella.
Aletta Prescott recently lost her husband to the war. The sewing company she works for is letting people go due to downsizing. She is left pregnant, with a 6-year-old son to care for and no way to pay for the house they live in. She applies to an advertisement for a cook to help with the Women's Relief Society and is taken in to work for the lady in charge. Captain Jake Winston was wounded and, against his wishes, sent to help with the Relief Society. As Jake and Aletta work together to make the Women's Relief Society event go smoothly, his negative opinions about the event begin to change. Jake and Aletta grow closer, only to have an unexpected occurrence happen, making Aletta rethink everything. (THOMAS NELSON, Oct., 240 pp., $12.99)
